The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) have formalised a strategic partnership to fast-track the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across Malaysia’s business landscape.

Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both organisations aim to catalyse the country’s transition toward a more sustainable and inclusive economy. The collaboration brings together MIDA’s national investment mandate with UNGCMYB’s deep-rooted expertise in corporate sustainability, creating a high-impact platform for advancing ESG adoption among local enterprises.

As part of the agreement, MIDA and UNGCMYB will co-develop a series of targeted initiatives—including conferences, executive roundtables, and training programmes—designed to equip businesses with the knowledge, tools, and networks necessary to embed sustainability at the core of their operations.

MIDA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid underscored the growing significance of ESG in shaping investment decisions. “Sustainability is no longer optional—it’s a critical enabler of future-ready investments. This collaboration reflects Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to its Net Zero 2050 agenda and will strengthen private sector engagement under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s Green Investment Strategy,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Faroze Nadar, Executive Director of UNGCMYB, called the MoU “a strategic leap forward” in closing the gap between ESG awareness and concrete business action. “We’re aligning global goals with local ambition—bringing sustainability from the boardroom to the bottom line,” he noted.

The partnership will officially debut at the Forward Faster Symposium 2025, UNGCMYB’s flagship sustainability event, set to take place on 5 June 2025 at MIDA’s headquarters. The symposium will mark the beginning of an intensified national push to align economic growth with climate responsibility and social equity.

Together, MIDA and UNGCMYB are laying the foundation for a new era of sustainable business in Malaysia—where purpose meets performance.
