Monday 14 April is the first edition of the electric storage device industry event. This will be followed by E-Tech Europe, the international trade show on the electrification of vehicles, on 15 and 16 April.
Italy is at the forefront of the development of new batteries for electric mobility, with numerous current research projects for the creation of a new generation of increasingly sustainable, high-performance, safe and low-cost storage devices. ENEA is experimenting with classes of new materials (ceramics, metallic mixtures, hard carbon) for sodium-ion batteries. The Institute of Advanced Technologies for Energy of the CNR in Messina is
working on “NASICON” (NAtrion SuperIonic Conductor), new solid-state electrolytes for sodium batteries, while the Polytechnic University of Turin is developing advanced electrolytes (polymers, ionic liquids, ceramics and their hybrids) for sodium batteries and more. The industrial sector is also very active, such as FIB (Seri Industrial-FAAM group) which is building the first Italian gigafactory for the production of lithium cells in Taverola
(Caserta). The main players in the Italian battery industry will meet at “Battery Day 2025”, the first networking and business event for this sector in Italy, which will be held on Monday 14 April at BolognaFiere Service Center.
“’Battery Day’’s first edition will be an important event for meeting and discussion for the Italian battery market and also an opportunity to make yourself known, share experiences and gather ideas on innovative projects”, said Marco Pinetti, director of A151, which organizes the event in conjunction with Battery Industry. “The people who have created the history of batteries in Italy will be there, passionate and visionary entrepreneurs, all united by the same spirit of research, innovation and challenge. Speakers will outline their history and their experiences, the difficulties encountered, the current challenges and the prospects for the future, during the various sessions.”
“Battery Day” program will open with presentations by Francesco De Meo, automotive advisor and expert in sustainable mobility at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, and Antonio Rinaldi, head of the Laboratory of Technologies and Devices for Electrochemical Accumulation of ENEA. Several sessions will follow: “Stories and experiences in Italy in the 20th century: from pioneers to the push for the future” (with the participation of speakers from various companies, including FAAM, Midac Batteries, FIAMM Energy Technology, Eltec, Dongchi New Energy); “Battery packs in Italy:
recipes for leadership” (eV-Now!, Flash Battery, E-GAP Engineering, Archimede Energia); “Battery packs in Italy: between startups and emerging leaders” (Be2Hub, XBW, Sparq Technology, Privè, Liber – System Electronics, Fast Charge Engineering). The event will end with the session “How to incentivize investments in Italy”, which will be moderated by Francesco Naso, general secretary of the Motus-E association, to which diplomatic representatives from Spain, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Romania and Turkey have been invited.
“E-Tech Europe 2025” will also be held at BolognaFiere on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 April. This international trade show dedicated to the battery and electric vehicle production industry has a full program which includes over 20 conventions, conferences and workshops, covering topics such as the electrification of heavy vehicles, development and recycling of batteries, new automotive components and the prospects for self-driving cars.
There are also five thematic areas for in-depth study planned: “Carbon Tech” on carbon and composite materials technologies; “Re-Battery” on battery recycling; “Invex” on industrial electric vehicles and machinery; “Auto Recyclers” on the automotive recycling industry; and “Interiors” focusing on technology and materials for automotive interiors. The exhibition will also host “Fortronic Electronics Forum 2025”, the benchmark event in Italy on power electronics, organized by the Associazione Distretti Elettronica Italia (ASSODEL).
